History and Aims

Julie Davis

On 29th May 2013, whilst on holiday in Stratford with her family, Julie Davis developed the foundations and concepts that soon became Future Steps;

  • Training,
  • Treatment and
  • Opportunities for
  • Therapeutic
  • Success

As an Occupational Therapist, with years of clinical experience in the field of Paediatrics and specialist skills in the delivery of Sensory Integration Therapy, it had been the dream of Julie Davis to set up a consultancy service which would offer therapy time to children in every school, with motor and sensory difficulties. Now, thanks to schools believing in this vision, it has become a reality that we can change how children function in their everyday life.

The aim of Future is to ensure that children with motor and sensory difficulties have access to Occupational Therapy via motor and sensory programmes. Consequently, bespoke Manuals have been created to provide 36 weeks of motor skills programmes from Nursery to Comprehensive. By introducing activities at a developmental level, I knew that children would benefit from improvements in their motor and sensory systems providing the foundations for learning.

Through the education of professional and training staff, schools are able to run programmes in house, improving children’s ability in the following areas:

  • Attention
  • Behavious
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Spelling
  • Gross & Fine Motor Skills
  • Perception
  • Self Esteem
  • Confidence

Consultancy hours allow each establishment to have expert advice, assessments, training and specific programmes to assist all cbhildren with Occupational Therapy needs. It is also important that these hours are used to ensure there are no difficulties experienced by the school and staff with running the programme.
